Washington Examiner White House reporter Naomi Lim said a lack of vetting on Graham Platner, the Democratic candidate for Senate in Maine, could hurt Democrats’ hopes of controlling the Senate.

Lim’s comments follow political consultant Daniel Moraff and fiancée Leanne Fan’s account of how they identified and recruited Platner to run for Maine’s Senate seat.

“We pulled up this video of this guy with an oyster farm; she pulled up his FPC history and saw the money he’d given to Bernie Sanders and some other people, and that was enough information to know that we had the best prospect that we’d maybe ever seen,” Moraff said to the Wall Street Journal in a recent story.

Moraff, a political consultant at Dark Forest, and Fan, a City University of New York Ph.D. sociology student, met on Sen. Bernie Sanders’s (I-VT) 2020 presidential campaign.

“The most interesting thing, particularly from that interview, is that they kind of admit to not doing their due diligence on this candidate,” Lim said on Fox News’s The Ingraham Angle on Wednesday.

“We’ve seen the ramifications of that, sort of drip, drip, drip over the past couple of months in terms of his background. But essentially this is a couple that met on the Bernie Sanders campaign, then referenced the donations that Platner had made to Bernie’s campaign,” Lim said.

Despite the past allegations of misconduct and a sexting scandal, Sanders has thrown his support behind Platner, endorsing him as the Democratic nominee in Maine’s U.S. Senate race.

Lim also pointed to key Zohran Mamdani aide Morris Katz, the Democratic strategist responsible for the New York City mayor’s rise and who is also a strategist for Platner

“This is one part of the power dynamic behind the Platner campaign; there’s also Mamdani. The New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani, one of his key aides, is also part of it,” Lim said.
