The company behind JIF peanut butter has issued a voluntary recall for its products in 12 states.
The Food and Drug Administration issued the recall on Friday, noting the presence of a “potential salmonella contamination.” The contamination has affected 14 people, and at least two of the cases have led to hospitalizations. The FDA, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and other local companies are investigating the outbreaks.

“Five out of five people reported consuming peanut butter and four of the five people specifically reported consuming different varieties of Jif brand peanut butter prior to becoming ill,” the FDA said in a statement.
The products being recalled include multiple varieties of peanut butter, and all have lot code numbers between 1274425 and 2140425. Customers can find this information printed on the back of the container. If a container of peanut butter does have one of these codes on it, customers are encouraged to throw the container away immediately.
