Vice President Kamala Harris visited the site of a shooting at a dance studio in Monterey Park, California, where 11 people were killed.

Harris laid down flowers at a makeshift memorial in front of the Star Dance Studio on Tuesday and called on leaders to “act” after the latest mass shooting.

“We will always, as a compassionate nation, mourn for the loss and pray for those who survive in their recovery. But we must also require that leaders of nations who have the ability and the power and the responsibility to do something, that they act,” Harris said.

The vice president pushed for more gun safety laws, saying California has been “courageous” with its gun laws but that Congress must pass laws so there is a “uniform approach” to firearm legislation.

“Can they do something? Yes. Should they do something? Yes. Will they do something? That is where we all must speak up and speak to our elected representatives about what we have a right to expect that they will do in the interest of the safety, the security, and the well-being of people like those whose lives were ended here and people around our country. They can, yes,” Harris said.

The Saturday night shooting, which happened during Lunar New Year celebrations, left 11 people dead and nine others injured. Authorities said they have been unable to establish a connection between the suspected shooter and the victims.
