A signed and game-worn jersey from Kobe Bryant’s sole NBA MVP season has sold for over $5.8 million.
The jersey became the second most expensive basketball jersey ever sold and the most expensive piece of Kobe memorabilia when the 2007-2008 #24 jersey fetched $5,849,700 with Sotheby’s, according to a Thursday report.

“This jersey is iconic in a way we seldom see in sports artifacts,” Sotheby’s head of streetwear and modern [collectibles] Brahm Wachter said in a statement.

“The image of Kobe wearing this particular jersey during the NBA playoffs has permeated in popular culture, reprinted on murals, books, newspapers [and] has become a symbol of his fierce determination and passion that has resonated with audiences across the world.”
Along with the iconic jersey, the purchaser of the lot received a collection of rare mural photographs depicting the late five-time champion in the uniform.

Bryant wore the jersey on many notable occasions, according to the report.
He wore it when he was awarded his first and only NBA Most Valuable Player Award at the Staples Center on May 7, 2008, and again during that season’s Western Conference finals.
