“Something tells me Jesus would *not* spend millions of dollars on Super Bowl ads to make fascism look benign,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted.

He Gets Us, a Christian group, reportedly spent tens of millions of dollars on an ad campaign during the Super Bowl to promote Christianity and Jesus to a national audience.

Funding for the ad campaign derived partly from anonymous donors, Christian groups, and the owners of Hobby Lobby in a bid to reach out to communities that have traditionally been disenfranchised by Christians, such as the LGBT community.

One of the ads homed in on the politically dicey subject of immigration and suggested that Jesus would show compassion for immigrants and those straddled by poverty. It showcased black-and-white imagery of people leaving their homes to avoid persecution before later revealing that it was depicting the story of Jesus.

Ocasio-Cortez, who identifies as Catholic, has previously channeled her faith to wade into political skirmishes. Back in 2020, she suggested that conservatives would largely reject Jesus if he were alive today.

The progressive firebrand also took aim at billionaire guru Elon Musk, who was spotted next to NewsCorp CEO Rupert Murdoch during the Super Bowl.

“Birds of a feather flock together,” she quipped on Twitter.

The Kansas City Chiefs edged out the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 in a down-to-the-wire game.
