Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Mark Warner (D-VA) said the briefing by the Justice Department to the Gang of Eight on classified documents “left much to be desired.”
The briefing on Tuesday went over the alleged mishandling of classified documents by President Joe Biden, former President Donald Trump, and former Vice President Mike Pence left the senators unsatisfied.

“In accordance with our responsibility to oversee the Intelligence Community and protect our national security, today we met with leaders from the IC and the Justice Department to discuss the exposure of classified documents. While today’s meeting helped shed some light on these issues, it left much to be desired and we will continue to press for full answers to our questions in accordance with our constitutional oversight obligations,” the two senators said in a joint statement.
Warner and Rubio, who serve as chairman and ranking member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, had requested information about documents allegedly mishandled by Biden, Trump, and Pence but were told details for the Biden and Trump investigations were limited due to them being conducted by a special counsel.

Despite warnings by the Justice Department that information would be limited, the senators pushed for the briefing as part of necessary oversight of national intelligence, including the “potential risks to national security arising from the mishandling of this classified information.”
