Arizona GOP gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake is reportedly among the short list of female candidates former President Donald Trump is considering as his 2024 running mate.
Lake, who rose to fame during the 2022 midterm elections when she ran for governor in Arizona, could be a major asset for Trump as he courts white suburban female voters. The Republican candidate closely aligned herself with the former president throughout her gubernatorial campaign, defending Trump’s claims that the 2020 election was stolen through widespread voter fraud — later using similar rhetoric to argue against her own electoral loss in 2022.

Trump is strongly considering tapping a female running mate to be his vice presidential candidate in 2024, with at least four women currently on his short list, according to Axios. Lake is considered a strong contender within Trump’s inner circles as she has often defended the former president on an array of matters.
However, her candidacy could pose one flaw, as Trump doesn’t want to risk picking a running mate who could steal the spotlight, according to the outlet.
Other sources close to Trump say former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley could be a strong choice for vice president, according to Axios. Haley is Trump’s most well-known declared opponent for the GOP nomination, but current polling numbers indicate Trump would defeat her in a primary election.

It’s not yet clear who Trump would be leaning toward for his vice presidential pick, and a spokesperson for the former president said he’d make a decision in his own timing.
“Anyone who thinks they know what President Trump is going to do is seriously misinformed and trying to curry favor with ‘potential’ V.P. candidates,” spokesman Steven Cheung told the outlet. “President Trump will choose his running mate on his own time, and those who are playing the media game are doing so at their own peril.”
