Vice President Kamala Harris reportedly is not returning Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s (D-MA) phone calls due to comments the senator made back in January.
Warren has called Harris at least twice to apologize for comments she made in a Boston radio interview about whether Harris should remain President Joe Biden’s running mate in 2024 — remarks she has since maintained were a mistake, CNN reported.

“I really want to defer to what makes Biden comfortable on his team,” Warren told Boston Public Radio. “I’ve known Kamala for a long time. I like Kamala. I knew her back when she was an attorney general and I was still teaching and we worked on the housing crisis together, so we go way back.”
“But they need — they have to be a team, and my sense is they are — I don’t mean that by suggesting I think there are any problems. I think they are,” she added.
At the time, rumors were swirling that many top Democrats harbored misgivings about Harris after a series of apparent gaffes and political hiccups plaguing her. Warren’s comments added fuel to the fire, but Warren conveyed to chief of staff Lorraine Voles that her remarks were merely a mistake, per the report.
Voles reportedly took one of the calls instead of Harris, who felt insulted by the remarks. Warren also issued a statement after her interview, stressing she stood behind a Biden-Harris ticket in 2024 and never “intended to imply otherwise.” She also recently shrugged off bestselling self-help authors Marianne Williamson’s primary challenge against Biden, rankling some progressives.
Both Warren and Harris were rivals in 2020 and had built brands as progressive senators during their time together in the upper chamber. The apparent fight between the pair comes as Harris has been forced to fend off whispers of consternation from other Democrats about her performance and that she could be a liability.

“He intends to run, and if he does, I’ll be running with him,” Harris insisted in an interview last month. “We are doing historic work.”
Biden is speculated to be eyeing an April 2024 campaign debut. Over recent weeks he has made trips to key states such as Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. He also unveiled a budget last week filled with progressive wish list items as he careens toward a budget showdown with Republicans.
