Drivers’ creativity is often put to the test when applying for a vehicle’s personalized license plate.
For drivers in Nevada, the reasons why the state’s Department of Motor Vehicles has rejected some applications are now being revealed.

Out of thousands of personalized license plate applications each year, hundreds are deemed inappropriate each cycle for being too risqué for the road, a report noted.
Nevada’s DMV listed reasons for the rejected applications that pertained to drug references, gang references, vulgarity, and law enforcement confusion.
One example included “BUD19” with the explanation of the driver’s dog’s name and the year he was born. However, Nevada said it was representative of drugs and marijuana.
Another applied to use “BILLSMFA” in support of the Buffalo Bills, listing the reason as what the NFL team’s fans call themselves. The DMV declined its approval, saying, “MFA sounds and looks like mafia; a gang.”
Drivers also requested to put “WHYYYY” and “ZZZZZZ” on their personalized license plates, but they were denied on the basis that it would cause confusion for law enforcement.
Another example of a rejected license plate request provided was “BADAB” for a family saying, “Bada Bing.” The DMV’s response listed “profane — bad a** b****” as the reason for its rejection.

The Nevada DMV also did not approve of a driver’s request to list “POO BUG” on the personalized license plate, in the representation of the brown 1968 Volkswagen Bug, saying it was “obscene; poo.”
The report noted that the following personalized license plate requests were originally questioned but eventually approved: “69DROP,” “MORB1D,” “BEEFYB,” “TOPD,” and “RNECK.”
