A transgender activist and self-identified Christian lambasted conservatives on Wednesday, alleging that they are exploiting the deaths of the Nashville shooting victims to help them at the ballot box.
“It seems the Republican Party, as usual, just can’t do basic math,” former press secretary for the Human Rights Campaign Charlotte Clymer told MSNBC’s Joy Reid. “Since Jan. 1, 2016, there have been 3,580 mass shootings in the United States … less than five of those have been trans.”

“So, we’re saying that 99.7%, at least, of the mass shooters have not been transgender,” Clymer, a biological male who identifies as female, said. “So, if we’re going to ban someone, maybe we should ban people who are not transgender from owning weapons.”
Conservatives are doing nothing to address the real issues that led to Monday’s mass shooting, according to Clymer.
“They’re not trying to fix the problem. They’re trying to weaponize it and exploit these senseless deaths,” Clymer said. “Three nine-year-olds were brutally murdered just for their own bottom line and the ballot box. It’s disgusting. It’s hypocritical, and by the way, as a Christian, I find it offensive they would leverage Christ’s teachings in such a heinous way against innocent people.”
Fox News host Tucker Carlson recently commented that the transgender movement is “targeting Christians,” and Clymer said it is impossible to “see Christ” in those words.

“I’m from the great state of Texas. I served in the military. I go to church every Sunday. My faith is very important to me, but God made me in her image,” Clymer said. “God made me transgender, and to see these people so cynically weaponize this and exploit these children’s deaths and their teachers’ deaths, it breaks my heart.”
“I can’t see where the biblical principles of loving your neighbor and walking the walk with Christ that they can see. I can’t see what they’re seeing.”
