The prosecutor who was ousted by Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) last year called the criticisms of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg by DeSantis and former President Donald Trump “part of the authoritarian playbook.”

Andrew Warren, who was ousted in August 2022 for failing to enforce state law on abortion and crime, said the critiques of Bragg were not about solving any problems.

DONALD TRUMP INDICTED: DESANTIS SAYS FLORIDA ‘WILL NOT ASSIST IN AN EXTRADITION REQUEST’

“This has become part of the authoritarian playbook. Where rather than solving problems, you’re fanning the flames,” Warren told NBC News before Trump was indicted. “In the realm of criminal justice, we have problems that we need to address. How do we reduce gun violence? How do we make our system more efficient and keep our neighborhoods safe?”

He also accused Trump and DeSantis of “attacking their political enemies with false narratives” instead of “helping solve those problems.”

DeSantis blasted Bragg earlier this month as “pursuing a political agenda” in his push for Trump to be indicted by a grand jury while also attacking him for being funded by wealthy liberal donor George Soros. Warren has also had campaign donations from Soros.

Trump was indicted by a grand jury on Thursday, becoming the first former president ever to be criminally charged. He was indicted related to an investigation into his making hush money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels during his 2016 presidential campaign, according to his legal counsel.

After the indictment was announced, DeSantis slammed the decision and vowed not to assist with the possible extradition of Trump due to “questionable circumstances at issue.”

“The weaponization of the legal system to advance a political agenda turns the rule of law on its head. It is un-American. The Soros-backed Manhattan District Attorney has consistently bent the law to downgrade felonies and to excuse criminal misconduct. Yet, now he is stretching the law to target a political opponent. Florida will not assist in an extradition request given the questionable circumstances at issue with this Soros-backed Manhattan prosecutor and his political agenda,” DeSantis tweeted Thursday.

Warren blasted DeSantis, alleging that his “blatant hypocrisy is a direct assault on the rule of law” in a tweet Friday.

“Your blatant hypocrisy is a direct assault on the rule of law,” Warren tweeted. “You falsely accuse others of not upholding the law. You were found to have broken the law. And now to kowtow politically you refuse to follow the law. This is how democracy dies — with words and deeds like yours.”

Trump is “likely” to turn himself in as early as next week, per his attorney, meaning extradition will likely not be necessary.
