Paris Hilton joined lawmakers on Capitol Hill this week to push bipartisan legislation to protect children from abuse in treatment facilities.

The socialite TV star-turned-businesswoman opened up about suffering abuse in multiple facilities marketed as programs to help troubled teenagers and urged Congress to pass the Stop Institutional Child Abuse Act, which would provide increased oversight and data transparency for congregate youth programs.

“I’m really just turning my pain into purpose and using my platform to help make a difference and save children’s lives because hundreds of children have died in the name of treatment in these places,” Hilton said.

Also this week in Washington, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) led House Republicans in passing debt ceiling legislation, and President Joe Biden, 80, announced he will seek a second term in the White House.
