Newly announced GOP hopeful Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is seeking to hit the 2024 trail running, visiting three states to begin his campaign.
His campaign “kickoff” will take place in Des Moines, Iowa, next Tuesday, followed by a four-day “Our Great American Comeback” tour through the Hawkeye State, New Hampshire, and South Carolina next week, his team announced. The initial outing includes 12 cities.

“We are laser-focused on taking Governor DeSantis’ forward-thinking message for restoring America to every potential voter in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina,” campaign manager Generra Peck said in a statement. “Our campaign is committed to putting in the time to win these early nominating states. No one will work harder.”
During the initial swing from May 30 to June 2, DeSantis will partake in “speeches, stops, and fireside chats,” per his campaign. His 2024 launch comes as he still has gubernatorial duties in Florida. DeSantis signed legislation on Wednesday that partially repealed the state’s resign-to-run law, clearing the path for his 2024 bid.
DeSantis has already visited many of those early states this year while testing the waters of a presidential run. Months of speculation of his 2024 intentions were put to rest Wednesday with his 2024 announcement on Twitter, followed up by a glitch-ridden Twitter Spaces event with CEO Elon Musk and entrepreneur David Sacks.
The Florida governor has consistently polled as former President Donald Trump’s main rival in the 2024 GOP primary. Trump greeted DeSantis with mockery, derision, and congratulations. Trump’s campaign seized on the technical difficulties that plagued the DeSantis debut.

DeSantis has pitched his campaign as a bid to rejuvenate a struggling nation, boasting that he is the man guaranteed to lead the GOP to victory against President Joe Biden in 2024 if he becomes the standard-bearer.
“The pledge I’ll make for people is simply this,” DeSantis said. “We need to win again as Republicans. We gotta dispense with this culture of losing. And if you nominate me, I pledge to you that on Jan. 20, 2025, at high noon, that I’ll be the guy in the west side of the Capitol with the left hand on the Bible.”
