Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) accused President Joe Biden of violating the United States flag code during a White House pride month event on Saturday.

Biden spoke from the South Lawn, where he was joined by First Lady Jill Biden, to ring in pride month along with thousands of guests at the White House hosting the largest LGBT pride event in its history. One pride flag was hung vertically in between two American flags hung in the same manner on the presidential residence’s facade, known as the South Portico.

“This is a disgrace,” Marshall tweeted Sunday. “Not only is it in breach of US Flag Code, but it’s a glaring example of this White Houses’ incompetence and insistence on putting their social agenda ahead of patriotism.”

Marshall’s office cited U.S. Flag Code §7. (e), which reads: “The flag of the United States of America should be at the center and at the highest point of the group when a number of flags of States or localities or pennants of societies are grouped and displayed from staffs.”

The White House kept the American flag that always flies on the roof of the residence.

“I won’t be lectured on patriotism by someone who voted to overturn an election,” Sen. Tina Smith (D-MN) said in response to Marshall’s tweet. “Pride is patriotic.”

This comes two days after Biden designated the week beginning Sunday as Flag Week, and declared June 14 Flag Day, per the Congressional resolution approved on August 3, 1949.
