Former President Donald Trump has a massive lead on the rest of the Republican presidential field, despite being indicted on charges related to his alleged mishandling of classified documents.

The CBS News-YouGov poll shows Trump with 61% of the vote among likely GOP primary voters, with Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) trailing with 23%, while no other candidate gets double digits.

Among the other candidates in the survey, former Vice President Mike Pence and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) have 4% each, while former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley has 3%, and all other candidates have 1%.

When asked who they are considering for their vote in the primary, 75% of likely GOP primary voters said Trump, 51% said DeSantis, 21% said Scott, 16% said Pence, and 15% said Haley.

In the same survey, 76% of likely Republican primary voters said they believed the indictment, 12% said the documents were a national security risk, while 12% said they believed both are true.

The poll also showed that 61% of likely GOP voters say the indictment will not change their view of Trump, compared to 14% who say it changes their view for the better and 7% who say it changes their view of him for the worse.

When asked what Trump should talk about, a majority of likely GOP voters said they would not want him talking about investigations against him, 61%, or the 2020 election, 68%, while 96% want him to discuss his plans for the country under a potential second Trump term.

When Democrats were asked about their likely presidential nominee, President Joe Biden, 42% say he should not be running for a second term, with 75% of independents and 86% of Republicans also saying Biden should not run for a second term.

The poll reinforces previous polls which show Trump’s commanding lead over the rest of the Republican field and with weariness over Biden, 80, running for a second term.
