The View’s hosts opened the show on Tuesday lamenting what a “sad day” it was for America ahead of former President Donald Trump’s federal indictment court appearance.
“So it is another sad day, another historic day, because you know who is set to be federally arraigned,” Whoopi Goldberg said.

As some members of the live audience cheered, she said, “Yeah, well, you know, it’s really kind of sad.”
“Folks of a certain age: Did you ever think you would live to see this happening?” she then asked.
“It’s a sad day because whatever you feel about this man and what he did, what is sort of unleashed in our nation is heartbreaking,” she said.
Alyssa Farah Griffin agreed, saying, “My heart breaks for the country.”
“My heart breaks,” she said, adding that “the justice system is working, but at the same time, it’s a Trump-appointed judge.”
“I’m not going to get ahead of where this may actually play out in Florida,” she said.
“By the way, we should all pray for safety today and that there aren’t violent demonstrations,” Griffin said.

Joy Behar agreed that “I mean, yes, it’s a sad day,” but she then said, “I’ve been through the Watergate hearings, and those were sad days also, and we came through with those.”
The former president revealed last week that he had been indicted by federal prosecutors. The indictment, featuring 37 charges, was unsealed on Friday, and details of documents taken by Trump and stored at his Mar-a-Lago residence were revealed to the public.
