Sound of Freedom’s opening weekend earned $18 million and took the No. 3 spot at the box office.
The film, which is distributed by Angel Studios, details the true story of how Tim Ballard, a former federal agent with Homeland Security, quit his job and risked his life to journey into the jungles of Colombia in an effort to save children from sex slavery.

Sound of Freedom shocked the box office on Tuesday with its No. 1 opening day finish, beating Disney’s latest Indiana Jones film.
“As with our July 4th numbers, today’s numbers exceed our expectations, and we’re going to continue this momentum. Sound of Freedom has taken on a life of its own,” Angel Studios Head of Theatrical Distribution Brandon Purdie told the Washington Examiner in a statement. “We’re getting messages from all over the country telling us about packed theaters, sold-out theaters, and spontaneous standing ovations for the film in numerous locations.”
In the days leading up to its theatrical release, music producer and songwriter Fernando Garibay wrote the film’s theme song, titled Sound of Freedom.
“How are movements created? Through every march of war, there has been a battle song. I wanted to create a battle song.” Garibay told the Washington Examiner. “The music is the ultimate buffer to allow the transition to happen. That was the responsibility I felt we had.”
