Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD) said she was “horrified” that the California Assembly’s Public Safety Committee blocked a bill that would make the trafficking of children a “serious felony.”

“I’m horrified by this. I can’t believe it,” Noem said during her appearance on Hannity. “I can’t believe that this would happen, that leaders would say these traffickers deserve a pass.”

“They should be punished to the highest extent of the law and never be allowed to see freedom again because of what they do to the poor and the innocent children that are subjected to their kind of work,” she continued.

In comparing the policies of California with those of her state, Noem said she was “so grateful that South Dakota isn’t like that.”

“What goes on in California every day blows my mind,” Noem said. “I feel like it’s another world that operates out there and another mindset. I’m so grateful that South Dakota isn’t like that and that we have people that still love each other, take care of each other, understand personal responsibility, and make wise decisions, and uphold the law.”

Noem also touted that South Dakota is the No. 1 choice of Californians who are looking to leave the Golden State.

“We’re thrilled that people want to come to South Dakota and be a part of our way of life,” Noem said. “And they’re coming here for freedom.”
