Maryland will send its final payment worth up to $1,691 to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program recipients for the month of July in the next 10 days.
SNAP benefits, also called food stamps, will continue being distributed in Maryland until July 23. Food stamps are sent out from the 4th to the 23rd of every month, according to the state’s benefits schedule.

Approximately 772,700 people from Maryland, comprising 13% of the state’s population, receive food stamps. The average payment per household member per month is $180.
In Maryland, the maximum amount a recipient can receive is $740 for a household of three and $1,691 for a household of eight. The program adds a maximum payment of $211 for each additional member past eight.
Recipients can use SNAP benefits “for food and for plants and seeds to grow food for your household to eat,” according to the state. Benefits are given on an electronic benefit transfer card, called the Independence Card, allowing beneficiaries to purchase eligible items at stores. Benefits cannot be used for non-food items, alcohol, medicines, tobacco, or “hot foods that are ready to eat.”
The day that food stamps are available on the Independence Card from the 4th to the 23rd depends on the first three letters of the recipient’s last name.

The maximum annual income permitted to be eligible for SNAP in Maryland depends on household size. For a household of one, the maximum annual income is $18,954, and the maximum annual income for a household of five is $45,682.
SNAP benefits can be used for groceries but cannot be used for owed food bills or items that someone cannot eat or drink, among other things, according to the state.
