Host Tucker Carlson questioned former President Donald Trump if he is concerned that his critics may escalate violence against him during a Wednesday night interview airing in competition with the Republican National Committee‘s first primary debate.

In an interview posted on social media, Carlson referenced Trump’s first presidential run during the 2016 cycle, in which Democrats were vocally opposed to Trump’s campaign. “It started with protests against you, massive protests, organized protests by the Left, and then it moved to impeachment twice and now indictment,” Carlson said. “I mean, the next stage is violence. Are you worried that they’re going to try and kill you? Why wouldn’t they try and kill you, honestly?”

Trump took the opportunity to excoriate Democrats. “They’re savage animals,” the former president said. “They are people that are sick, really sick.”

“You have great people in the Democrat Party,” he continued. “You have great people that are Democrats. Most of the people in our country are fantastic, and I’m representing everybody. I’m not just Republicans or conservatives. I represent everybody. I’m the president of everybody. But I’ve seen what they do. I’ve seen the lengths that they go to.”

The former president then claimed former Attorney General Bill Barr “should have gone after them” before once again slamming Democrats.

“These are people that … I think they hate our country. You want to know the truth,” Trump said.

Trump also called Barr “terrible” and called him a “Bushie” in reference to the venerable Bush family during the interview.

When Carlson attempted to get Trump’s thoughts on Barr’s actions regarding the disgraced Jeffrey Epstein’s death, Trump pivoted to attacking Barr instead.

“Bill Barr didn’t do an investigation on the election fraud, either, OK? He said he did, and he pretended he did, but he didn’t,” Trump said about his 2020 loss to President Joe Biden.
