Social media influencer and transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney seemed to joke briefly about the boycott affecting Bud Light on Sunday night during an appearance at an awards show.
Mulvaney, a biological male who identifies as a transgender woman, was announced as the breakout creator of 2023 at the Streamy Awards, which is dedicated to online content creators.

During Mulvaney’s acceptance of the award, the influencer talked about getting a beer to celebrate, a nod to the partnership with Bud Light earlier this year.
“I just love you so much — thank you, thank you, thank you!” Mulvaney said to the applause of the audience. “I’m going to go have a beer, and I love you!”
During Mulvaney’s speech, the influencer noted that “there’s been an extreme amount of transphobia and hate” and told the audience to “support trans people publicly and proudly.”
The partnership Mulvaney did with Bud Light took place in late March, when the beer company gave a commemorative can to the influencer to celebrate the one-year anniversary of Mulvaney’s transition.
In the wake of Bud Light’s partnership, the beer brand, along with its owner Anheuser-Busch, has received major backlash from consumers, with the heir of Anheuser-Busch claiming that his ancestors “would have rolled over in their graves.” Earlier this month, the company reported it lost close to $400 million in its second quarter.

Earlier this month, Anheuser-Busch announced it would be selling off eight of its labels to Tilray Brands, a cannabis company based in New York City. Through this purchase, Tilray Brands will become the fifth-largest craft beer business in the United States, up from its current position of ninth.
Last week, the Bud Light debacle was mocked by country singer John Rich, who released a music video for his song “I’m Offended.” In the video, a man is in a bar drinking a can of “sissy beer” before a woman takes the can away from him and gives him a different beer.
