Salena Zito, a national political reporter for the Washington Examiner, dismissed the latest Wall Street Journal poll showing former President Donald Trump holding a 46-point lead over Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL).

In response to questions about whether the Florida governor will be able to catch up in polling, Zito said on Fox News Live on Monday, “I have learned after covering American politics for a couple of decades anything can happen.”

The poll shows that Trump is expanding his lead among GOP primary voters in his bid to be the 2024 Republican presidential nominee. Trump’s lead over DeSantis has nearly doubled since April.

Zito cautioned that it is too soon to see.

“A lot can happen between now and January when the first votes are cast in Iowa and New Hampshire and then South Carolina,” she said.

“They aren’t talking about Trump, and they are not talking about Biden,” she said of voters she’s recently spoken to across the country.

Zito described Trump’s support going “two ways.”

“They liked what he did, and they feel as though this is a political attack. But those can be soft support. So, we need to watch what happens and start to really unpack this race maybe in the beginning of December, or even the end of December,” Zito said.
