The money is sent on the 15th of each month, Strength Based Community Change told the Washington Examiner.

Last year, 1,000 participants were randomly selected to receive $1,000 per month for three years, and an additional 200 people were chosen to receive $1,000 per month for two years later in the year.

The program seeks to aid recipients “during sharp economic swings to breathe a little easier, alleviate stress, and broaden recipients’ horizons,” according to the program’s website. Breathe also gives beneficiaries the time to complete deferred education and job training and participate fully in their communities.

Applications for Breathe opened on March 31, 2022, and closed on April 13, 2022. Applications for the expansion to include an additional 200 recipients opened on June 20 and closed on July 3.
