Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) had harsh words for Democrats running for reelection next year, saying they have a “structural problem” due to President Joe Biden’s policies and have only one thing to campaign on because of the failures of his administration.

“I think Democrats are fleeing the ship like rats, and I think they are scared. They’re looking at Joe Biden. And listen, they’ve got a structural problem,” Cruz told Hannity. “If you are a Democrat running for reelection in 2024, you can’t run on the record. You can’t run on jobs. You can’t on the economy. … You can’t run on crime. You can’t run on immigration. … You can’t run on foreign policy.”

The Texas senator spelled out his reasoning for each topic, citing inflation, the crisis at the border, the frantic withdrawal from Afghanistan, and more. “And so if you are a Democrat, you can’t run on the record. What do you do? You have to run on attacking Donald Trump.”

Cruz underscored the precarious situation he believes Democrats are in ahead of the 2024 elections by reiterating a point he made last week that the Democratic Party will “throw” Joe Biden off the presidential ticket and “parachute in” a new candidate, namely former first lady Michelle Obama.

“I think they’re going to look to Michelle Obama as the savior to come in, and I think if that happens, that would be very, very dangerous, and every time I see a Democrat or one of their puppets in the press beginning to point out the problems with Joe Biden, every time that happens, the chances of that go up and up and up,” the Republican senator said.

Cruz, who ran for the presidency himself in 2016, conceded that he does not know if the former first lady would want to be president, but he sees her as a better alternative to the Democrats than Vice President Kamala Harris, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), and Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA).

“I don’t know if she wants it. But I do think it will be much more attractive to her to come in next summer and just campaign a couple of months to the general rather than having to spend two years campaigning vigorously on the ground,” Cruz told host Sean Hannity.

Biden is extremely likely to run away with the Democratic presidential ticket, and polls have his most likely competitor as a familiar foe, former President Donald Trump. And because Cruz believes the Democratic Party is in a difficult position with the United States’s current state of affairs, their only reasonable strategy, if Biden is to be their nominee, is, “Yes, our guy is a train wreck, but we think the other guy is worse.”
