U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced that agents stopped two human smuggling attempts carrying over 30 immigrants from Central America and narcotics.

Agents stopped the vehicle and conducted an immigration inspection of the driver after a service canine alerted them to the cab.

“The driver was referred to secondary and [agents] commenced a search of the commercial vehicle,” the Thursday release read. “During the search, agents discovered six migrants concealed inside the cab area of the vehicle.”

The second thwarting of would-be human smuggling occurred hours later around 7:30 p.m. when agents responded to a second commercial vehicle, CBP said.

During the inspection of the second vehicle, at least 28 people were found in the commercial tractor’s sleeper area.

“Further inspection of the tractor revealed a bag containing small pills that tested positive for Fentanyl and a small bag of powdery substance that tested positive for Cocaine,” the CBP release read. “The case is being handled by Homeland Security Investigations.”

In total, the 34 people attempting to be smuggled into the United States were taken in by agents and processed.
