Although most residents in Georgia have received their 2022 tax rebates from the state, there are still some taxpayers who received an extension to file their 2022 taxes who will soon receive their rebate worth up to $500.

The amount each rebate sent to eligible Georgians is worth is dependent on filing status and tax liability. Single filers get as much as $250, heads of households receive as much as $375, and joint filers receive as much as $500.

All payments have been issued to those who filed their 2022 tax returns by the regular April 18, 2023, deadline, but those who received a lawful extension are set to see their refunds once their tax returns have been filed. The IRS authorized extensions in February for residents in parts of Georgia due to severe storms earlier this year, allowing them to file their taxes by Oct. 16.

“Georgia is once again in a position to issue surplus tax refunds thanks to years of responsible, conservative budgeting and because we chose to protect both lives and livelihoods during the pandemic,” Gov. Brian Kemp (R-GA) said in a statement about the rebate in May.

“While failed policies coming out of Washington, D.C. are pushing us closer to a recession and forcing hardworking Georgians to endure sky-high inflation, we on the state level are doing what we can to return money back where it belongs — in taxpayers’ hands,” Kemp added.

To be eligible for the tax rebate, taxpayers must have filed their income tax returns for 2021 and 2022, had a tax liability in 2021, and be a “Georgia resident, part-year resident, or nonresident.”
