Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce happily accepted a nickname New York Jet quarterback Aaron Rodgers gave him this week.
Rodgers appeared for an interview on the Pat McAffee Show on Tuesday, referring to Kelce exclusively as “Mr. Pfizer.” Kelce recently appeared in a Pfizer commercial. Kelce went on to respond to the nickname during a press conference Friday.
EMPLOYMENT GROWTH CRUSHES EXPECTATIONS WITH 336,000 JOBS ADDED IN SEPTEMBER
“I thought it was pretty good. I mean, with the ‘stache right now, I look like a guy called ‘Mr. Pfizer,'” Kelce said after a laugh. “Who knew I’d get into the vax wars with Aaron Rodgers, man? Mr. Pfizer versus the Johnson & Johnson family there.”
Kelce was referring to Rodgers’s employment by Woody Johnson, an heir of Johnson & Johnson, another pharmaceutical company. Despite this relationship, Rodgers is not vaccinated against COVID-19. In fact, Rodgers made headlines in 2021 when he initially claimed in an interview that he was “immunized” from COVID-19, leading some to believe he had received a vaccination, but later admitted the truth.
“I mean, I’ve always been, you know, once I got the vaccine. … I got it because of, you know, keeping myself safe, keeping my family safe, the people in this building,” Kelce went on. “So yeah, I stand by it 1,000% and fully comfortable with him calling me Mr. Pfizer.”
