Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) explained what his first move will be as House speaker, if he’s elected.

Jordan appeared on Sunday Morning Futures, stating that support for Israel must take precedence once a new House speaker is in place.

The Ohio Republican’s comments come amid Hamas firing thousands of rockets and sending dozens of fighters into Israel. The attack began Saturday on Simchat Torah, a Jewish holiday celebrating the annual cycle of the Torah scroll reading. The resulting death toll is roughly 200, as of Sunday afternoon, while an increasing number of people in the area are being captured. Israel has launched a counter strike into Palestine, which has reached a proportional death toll there as well.

When Sunday Morning Futures host Maria Bartriomo asked what Jordan’s first directive would be as speaker, he promised a resolution to support the state of Israel.

“That is something that I think gets bipartisan, bicameral full support from the United States government because, again, this is our — this is our great friend and great ally — the state of Israel. I think that’s front and center,” Jordan said.

Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) has also thrown his hat in the ring for the speaker position. However, Donald Trump opted to endorse Jordan over the House Majority leader.

“American people right now, Maria, I think they are so thirsty for leadership and I don’t think they’re seing it from the White House. I don’t think they’re getting it from the Senate,” Jordan went on. “House Republicans need to unite and show the country that we’re fighting for them.”

Jordan is the founding member of the Freedom Caucus and an eight-term representative. He is currently the chair of the House Judiciary Committee, which is leading an investigation into Hunter Biden, which Jordan promised will continue should he become speaker and leave the committee chair.

The previous speaker, Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) term was the shortest in over a century. He followed Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) who served for just shy of eight years.
