Former Vice President Mike Pence‘s campaign will report $620,000 in debt for the third quarter fundraising period on Sunday.
The campaign confirmed that Pence has $1.2 million in cash on hand, with Pence giving himself $150,000 to the campaign from his personal funds, according to multiple outlets. In the third quarter, Pence’s campaign will report having raised $3.3 million.
BIDEN CLOSED Q3 WITH MORE CASH ON HAND THAN ENTIRE GOP FIELD
Racking up debt in a campaign, as many candidates have done before him, could signal trouble for Pence’s presidential campaign. In 2015, then-Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s campaign reported just under $1 million in the bank and $161,000 in debt at the end of the third quarter before he dropped out of the race, per NBC News.
Pence’s $1.2 million cash-on-hand could limit the former vice president’s ability to effectively campaign. At least $200,000 of that cash is not available for use in the primary season and only usable for the general election because it was raised by donors who had already given the maximum amount to the campaign, according to an NBC News analysis.
His campaign falls dramatically behind the fundraising reports of his fellow Republican presidential candidates, as well. Former U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley raised over $11 million in the third quarter, with $9.1 million usable for the primary.
Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) announced a $15 million third-quarter fundraising haul. According to his campaign, it started the month of October with $13.5 million in cash on hand, but only $5 million of that total can be spent during the primary season.
Former President Donald Trump’s campaign, meanwhile, said it had nearly $36 million available to spend on the 2024 primaries after raising $45.5 million in the third quarter. Sen. Tim Scott’s (R-SC) campaign, which has not announced third-quarter totals as of yet, entered the race with a well-stocked campaign account from his years in the Senate.
All of those figures are based on campaign announcements and cannot be independently verified until the campaigns file reports with the Federal Election Commission, which are due by the end of Sunday.

On the Democratic side, President Joe Biden’s campaign announced he raised $71.3 million in the third quarter, significantly outpacing Trump, who is the front-runner for the GOP nomination. Biden heads into Q4 with nearly $91 million cash on hand, more than the expected total for the entire Republican primary field.
The Washington Examiner reached out to Pence’s campaign for confirmation and comment on the totals.
