The Chosen television series is returning to the big screen for a Christmas special that will play in theaters for a limited time.

The special, titled Christmas with the Chosen: Holy Night, is a remastered combination of two previous productions of the drama series, the first being The Messengers, a previous Christmas episode showing the birth of Jesus Christ, and the second being The Shepherd, the short film that inspired the television series.

NOVEMBER TO REMEMBER: ANY CHANCE OF AN UPSET, OR IS BESHEAR HOME DRY?

Dallas Jenkins, the creator and director of The Chosen, described this new special as “a really beautiful experience” that he hopes will “tide people over” until the show’s fourth season is released.

“We didn’t know it was going to work. We thought it might be clunky and then it turned out beautifully,” Jenkins told Catholic News Agency. “Even though the crew was different and the setting is different and the sets are all different and we had different levels of resources to work with, the story itself blended together beautifully.”

The Christmas special will also feature seven musical performances from singer Andrea Bocelli, whom Jenkins called “one of the most beautiful voices in the history of the world.” Among the songs performed will be “O Holy Night.”

This special will be released in theaters from Dec. 12 through Dec. 17, and tickets will go on sale Nov. 20.

The Chosen is a biblical drama that is crowdfunded by its viewers, and has so far released 24 episodes across three seasons. The show has reached more than 110 million viewers across 175 countries, with the creators of the show having plans to make the show available in 600 languages.

Earlier this year, the television series received permission from the Screen Actors Guild to continue filming amid the ongoing actor’s strike. The Screen Actors Guild–American Federation of Television and Radio Artists stated that it would give waivers to independent productions that would sign “interim agreements” with the union.

The fourth season of the show is set to be released in February 2024, according to a statement from the show on social media.
