Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) announced that he’s ready to make a rare move across the aisle to censure one of his Democratic colleagues. His comments come as the House readies censure votes over comments about the war in Gaza.
The criticism of Israel from several progressive House Democrats has invited bipartisan condemnation. The overwhelming majority of Congress unites behind support for the nation. The harshest criticism has been leveled against Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), the only ethnically Palestinian member of Congress, who has consistently leveled the harshest criticism against Israel throughout the current Gaza war. Moskowitz, a Jewish representative, has expressed his disgust over her comments and is now expressing willingness to join Republicans in a vote to censure her.

“If a censure comes on her misinformation on the hospital bombing, which obviously we know was not true, that she continued to spread even after intelligence came out it wasn’t true,” Moskowitz said in an appearance on CNN’s The Lead with Jake Tapper. “And on ‘From the river to the sea,’ I would support that censure.”
On the other hand, Rep. Sara Jacobs (D-CA) moved to force a vote to censure Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL) over inflammatory comments about Palestinian civilians. Mast, a fervent supporter of Israel who wore an Israel Defense Forces uniform to the Capitol, gave remarks on the House floor where he downplayed the existence of “innocent Palestinian civilians.”
“I would encourage the other side to not so lightly throw around the idea of innocent Palestinian civilians, as frequently said,” he said. “I don’t think we would so lightly throw around the term ‘innocent Nazi civilians’ during World War II.”

While introducing her resolution, Jacobs said Mast “has repeatedly made inflammatory statements regarding innocent Palestinian civilians in Gaza who are in harm’s way through no fault of their own as a result of horrific terrorist attacks conducted by Hamas on Oct. 7, 2023.”
Mast’s “refusal to distinguish innocent Palestinians from Hamas terrorists is false, misleading, dehumanizing, dangerous and unbecoming of a member of Congress,” she added.
