Police said fewer than 10 people were arrested after a protest in New York City conducted by the pro-Palestinian group Within Our Lifetime on Thanksgiving.

The demonstration originated in Madison Square Park and went by the New York Public Library and Bryant Park, according to a New York Police Department Public Information Officer. Posts on social media appeared to show the library had been vandalized during the protest.

ANATOMY OF A DEAL: HOW THE ISRAEL-HAMAS HOSTAGE NEGOTIATIONS PLAYED OUT

A post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, appeared to show red graffiti on the Stephen A. Schwarzman building of the New York Public Library.

One of the lines painted in red that accompanied red hand prints stated, “You fund genocide.”

Another post on X seemed to show protesters marching past the library. They could be heard chanting, “We will free Palestine within our lifetime.”

The protest was organized by the pro-Palestinian group Within Our Lifetime. The group had messaging on its website advocating for the end of what it calls “U.S. sponsored genocide in Gaza.”

U.S. officials have cast doubt on the accuracy of death counts coming out of Gaza because the area and its authorities are controlled by Hamas.

“Since October 7th, 2023, over 11,000 Palestinians in Gaza have been massacred by israel. The bombs used to carry out this genocide are made by U.S. weapons manufacturers, traded on Wall St. and paid for by U.S. military and, funded by our taxes,” a passage on the group’s about page read.

The war in Israel and Gaza began after a surprise attack on Israel by the U.S.-designated terror group Hamas on Oct. 7. Over 1,200 Israelis were killed in the attacks.

A temporary truce between Israel and Hamas is expected to begin Friday morning. Some hostages currently held by Hamas are expected to be released in the days that follow.
