Pioneering Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, a swing vote for decades on the nation’s highest court, has died at age 93.

O’Connor, who graduated from law school in two years at a time when few women even attended, was appointed in 1981 and was unanimously approved by the Senate, becoming the first woman to serve on the high court.
