Police in Paris have detained a man after he allegedly stabbed a tourist to death and attacked two others with a hammer.
The suspect, an unidentified 26-year-old French resident, allegedly killed a German tourist near the Eiffel Tower, according to Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin. Despite the suspect being in police custody at the time of his post to X, formerly known as Twitter, Darmanin advised people to clear the area of the Quai de Grenelle.

Darmanin also alleged that the man shouted “Allahu Akbar,” an Arabic phrase meaning “God is greatest,” before committing the crime. Without divulging the suspect’s identity, Darmanin confirmed that he had served a prison sentence of four years for an attempted terrorist attack and is currently on the French security services watchlist.
This suspect expressed his frustration to police that “so many Muslims are dying in Afghanistan and in Palestine” upon his arrest, according to Darmanin, who also claimed the man suffers from psychiatric disorders. Police deployed a stun gun on the man.
