A new ad from a Republican group urging people not to support presidential candidate Donald Trump began airing Friday on the Hallmark Channel.

The commercial is from a group called Republican Accountability, which describes itself on social media as “Republicans and Conservatives defending pro-democracy R’s, holding accountable those who tried to overturn the election, & fighting against disinformation.”

DEMOCRATS SPLIT ON WHETHER COLORADO BALLOT RULING WILL HURT BIDEN IN 2024

The minutelong video includes clips of former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney suggesting that a vote for Trump could lead to “the last election that you ever get to vote in” and Trump’s secretary of defense calling his former boss “a threat to democracy.” It is slated to air in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

“He caused an insurrection at the Capitol, and sorry to ruin your Christmas, but he’s running again,” the ad says of Trump. “This guy is openly running as a wannabe dictator. Trump said he would terminate the Constitution so he could be president again.”

The ad depicts a Truth Social post from Trump where, in a rant against the 2020 election that he has long referred to as “rigged,” Trump suggests that “a Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution.” A narrator in the ad compares this strategy to those of Benito Mussolini, Hugo Chavez, Augusto Pinochet, and Viktor Orban.

“The alarm is going off. Everyone needs to wake up. We have a choice between protecting our democracy or letting Trump destroy it,” the ad continues. “It’s time to get off the sidelines. We can’t let Donald Trump get close to the Oval Office again.”

Hallmark has a reputation as a Christmas channel, producing various made-for-TV movies surrounding the holiday. It does not feature a newscast and is not prone to political ads. This latest ad will play through next week.

Trump has maintained a massive lead in the polls for the Republican presidential nomination despite the various indictments against him, which also include federal charges of mishandling classified documents. He has pleaded not guilty to all 91 felony charges against him.
