New data show the most popular Christmas songs played on streaming platform Spotify draw earnings of just under $5.5 million, but one song in particular has earned less than $20,000 for its artist.

Hello Millions analyzed Spotify streams to identify which Christmas songs have made the most and least profit, based on an average of $0.0035 earnings per stream since the platform launched in 2011.

Boney M’s “Mary’s Boy Child / Oh My Lord” was found to be the lowest-earning song. To date, the song has been streamed 5.13 million times, earning just under $18,000.

Those data come in stark contrast to Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You,” which has earned 99% more at nearly $5.4 million with more than 1.5 billion streams.

Hello Millions told the Washington Examiner in a statement that the findings show the important connection that certain songs have with artists throughout the holiday season: “For artists, having a festive hit not only boosts their visibility during the holiday season but helps establishes a timeless and nostalgic connection with fans who associate their music with the magic of Christmas, ultimately ensuring popularity year after year.”

The study also found Wham’s “Last Christmas” to be the second-most popular song, with 1.24 billion streams and earnings of $4.3 million.

Ariana Grande’s “Santa Tell Me” came in as the third-most popular Christmas song at 881,427,641 streams and $3 million in earnings.
