The Colorado Republican Party is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision to remove former President Donald Trump from the 2024 primary ballot in the state.
The appeal will freeze the Colorado Supreme Court’s ruling, which was on a pause that was set to expire on Jan. 4, until the U.S. Supreme Court makes its decision.

“Unless the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision is overturned, any voter will have the power to sue to disqualify any political candidate, in Colorado or in any other jurisdiction that follows its lead,” the petition said, according to the New York Times. “This will not only distort the 2024 presidential election but will also mire courts henceforth in political controversies over nebulous accusations of insurrection.”
“The catastrophic effects of the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision are already foreshadowed in pending and recently decided cases involving attempts to deny President Trump access to the 2024 ballot,” it added.

The party further claimed that the ruling represented government overreach into the primary process.
Trump’s attorneys are expected to file an appeal within the coming days as well.
