Colorado‘s secretary of state blamed former President Donald Trump and the Republican Party for threats of violence she said she has received.
Secretary of State Jena Griswold, a Democrat, claimed she has seen a spike in death threats since voicing support for the decision to remove Trump from the Colorado ballot and said Trump and his party are responsible for it.

“I would say Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress and high-ranking Republicans across the nation who have not stood up to condemn the rhetoric of violence,” Griswold said in an interview with CNN when host John Berman asked her who is to blame for threats of political violence.
“All the lies, all the disinformation are used as justification to suppress the vote across the nation. The lies have incited security breaches, including election officials breaching their own equipment, and have really incited a wave of political threats to election workers,” she continued.
She then suggested that threats of political violence are part of a concerted strategy from Trump and Republicans meant to intimidate officials such as herself.

“And the intended result is happening,” she said, pointing out the high turnover rate since 2020 among elected county clerks.
Colorado judges and other officials reported a spike in death threats following the decision to remove Trump from the ballot, though at least some of those were actually memes.
