JetBlue Airlines announced a shift of focus to leisure routes in light of its merger with Spirit Airlines getting denied in court.
The company sent a memo obtained by CNBC to employees Friday announcing more flights to the Caribbean and Paris, which is one of its three trans-Atlantic routes. JetBlue announced its first trans-Atlantic route to England’s London Heathrow airport in 2021.
Additionally, the airline will be canceling its routes from New York’s JFK airport to Portland, Oregon, to Ponce, Puerto Rico, to Milwaukee, and to San Jose, California, along with its route from New York’s Westchester County Airport to Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. There were only seven airlines flying out of Westchester County before this announcement.
JetBlue will leave the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall airport completely, abandoning its nonstop flight to Boston.

“We can’t fly everywhere we’d like, so we need to be highly selective about where we point our aircraft in order to turn a profit, support our overall network strategy, and offer a reliable operation,” JetBlue Vice President Dave Jehn wrote in the memo.
The Justice Department intervened in JetBlue’s attempted merger with Spirit, which resulted in Judge William G. Young of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts ruling against the merger. Since then, the companies have appealed the decision.
