Former sports reporter Michele Tafoya said the Democratic Party is wrong to focus its campaign on abortion as there are more important topics at hand, including protecting women’s sports.
At a recent rally in Houston, Vice President Kamala Harris invited abortion clinicians onstage to appeal to voters who support abortion rights in Texas, which is typically a red state. Tafoya said this was in poor taste.
“You know, that may have worked in the midterms in 2022 when we were closer to the Dobbs decision, and we have seen now that since Dobbs, there have been more abortions performed in America than prior to that. I think [Harris] is right that women are losing their rights. They are losing their rights to roster spots and privacy in locker rooms. Because of Kamala Harris and Joe Biden and their attempt to dismantle Title IX or make it not even close to what it was,” Tafoya said on Fox News’s The Ingraham Angle on Monday. “That’s a right that’s being taken away. Abortion is not my top — not even close. I tend to be more pro-choice than pro-life.”
Tafoya was referring to the Biden-Harris administration’s change to Title IX earlier this year, when it included transgender identities into the sexual harassment and discrimination portion of the law. It is speculated to end any protections from transgender athletes entering women’s sports.

“But you know what I want? I want safety,” Tafoya said. “I want to know my kids are safe. I want to know the streets of my community are safe. I want the border closed. And I want prices to come down, and I want America to regain its footing as the leader of the free world in this, you know, in all things foreign policy.”
This comes as a new poll of likely voters in swing states found that, overall, healthcare unseated abortion as a top-five issue. Healthcare ranked fourth in a list of the 12 most important topics this election season. Abortion only ranked seventh.
