Alabama coach Nick Saban, widely considered one of the greatest college football coaches ever, is retiring.
Saban, 72, announced his retirement at a team meeting on Wednesday, ESPN’s Chris Low reported. He just completed his 17th season with Alabama.
Saban won 201 of 230 games during his tenure with the Crimson Tide, and he won six national championships, nine conference titles, and 16 bowl games. He never had a losing season.

The announcement was quickly mourned throughout the sports world, with other coaches paying their respects. Colorado head coach Deion Sanders deemed Saban the greatest of all time.
“WOW!” Sanders said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. “College Football just lost the GOAT to retirement. WOW! I knew it would happen 1 day soon but not this soon. The game has change so much that it chased the GOAT away. College football let’s hold up our mirrors and say HONESTLY what u see.”
