Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) slammed the American Israel Public Affairs Committee after its social media post included her and other progressive Democrats.
AIPAC’s X account was responding to new evidence detailing sexual violence perpetrated by Hamas during its Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel. The pro-Israel group tagged the accounts of Ocasio-Cortez and eight other House Democrats, claiming the demand for a ceasefire in Gaza only “keeps these rapist monsters armed and in power,” referring to Hamas. The New York Democrat responded harshly, finding the post insensitive because some of those tagged allegedly have been victims of sexual assault.
“It is appalling that AIPAC is targeting women members of Congress who have survived sexual assault with this horrific rhetoric,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote, quoting the post. “Each and every day, their role in US politics becomes a greater scandal. They are the NRA of foreign policy. Of course they don’t want a ceasefire.”
Ocasio-Cortez did not specify which congresswomen she was referring to, but she has spoken about being a sexual assault survivor before. Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) has also shared her personal account of being sexually assaulted.

Ocasio-Cortez’s statement is the latest in several attacks against AIPAC, the influential, bipartisan pro-Israel group. She previously accused it of being racist and extremist.
“They are one of the more racist and bigoted PACs in Congress as well, who disproportionately target members of color,” Ocasio-Cortez said in October 2023. “They are an extremist organization that destabilizes US democracy.”
