Former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson endorsed former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination on Saturday.
Hutchinson took to X to make the announcement, remaining firm in his stance that the GOP needs to look to someone other than former President Donald Trump to lead the party.
“Anyone who believes Donald Trump will unite this country has been asleep over the last 8 years,” Hutchinson wrote. “Trump intentionally tries to divide America and will continue to do so. Go @NikkiHaley in New Hampshire.”
The endorsement comes four days after the former Arkansas governor ended his own bid for the Republican nomination. He earned just 0.2% of the vote during Monday’s Iowa caucuses, placing sixth behind Trump, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), Haley, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and pastor Ryan Binkley.

In his dropout announcement, Hutchinson congratulated Trump for his victory but also lamented that “telling the truth about the current front runner did not sell in Iowa.” By endorsing Haley, he is throwing his support behind the candidate closest to the former president in the polls.
The FiveThirtyEight polling average in New Hampshire shows Trump with a nearly 15-point lead over Haley as of Saturday. The former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations appears to be the only Trump alternative, however, as DeSantis is polling around 5% compared to her 34%. The primary in the Granite State is scheduled for Tuesday.
