The corruption trial of former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan has entered its third month. Madigan’s defense attorney began cross-examination of government cooperating witness and former Chicago Alderman Daniel Solis Monday.
Solis admitted he committed many crimes, including bribery, while serving as an alderman. Madigan and codefendant Michael McClain are charged with 23 counts. Jury selection for the case began in early October.
Election results official
Official voter turnout for the Nov. 5 General Election was the fourth lowest turnout over the last 48 years.
The Illinois State Board of Elections Monday officially proclaimed the results showing 70.4% of the state’s 8.1 million registered voters cast ballots.
Vice President Kamala Harris won Illinois’ 19 electoral votes with 54.4% of the vote to former President Donald Trump’s 43.5%. Trump won the Electoral College and the national popular vote.

The federal agency says it is eager to return more than $4.2 million in wages recovered to more than 5,500 Illinois workers. The tool can be accessed online at the agency’s Workers Owed Wages website.
