Police responded to an active shooter situation reported in midtown Manhattan around 6:40 p.m. Monday.

At least four people, including a police officer, were fatally shot, according to developing reports.

The gunman, armed with a rifle, walked into a skyscraper that houses the headquarters for Blackstone and the NFL. The suspect was killed, according to police.

The New York City Police Department evacuated the building and issued a shelter-in-place order for about 100 people nearby.

City and federal officials quickly responded to the news.

“New Yorkers: there is an active shooter investigation taking place in Midtown right now,” New York City Mayor Eric Adams posted on social media. “Please take proper safety precautions if you are in vicinity and do not go outside if you are near Park Avenue and East 51st Street.” Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) also confirmed she had been briefed on the shooting.

In a video update, Adams said the police are conducting a thorough search on each floor of the 634-foot skyscraper. The mayor also said he would be visiting the hospital to speak with the victims’ families.

“FBI New York Field Office management personnel and agents are responding to provide support at the active crime scene in Manhattan,” FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said. Attorney General Pam Bondi added that a team from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York is on the scene to help.

No details were immediately provided on the suspect’s identity and motive as the investigation remains ongoing.

A press conference is expected later Monday.

THREE PEOPLE DEAD AND MULTIPLE INJURED AFTER SHOOTING AT RENO CASINO

Meanwhile, one man and one woman were arrested near the scene Monday evening. The man reportedly said, “Free Palestine, I’m not the active shooter.” Police have not yet confirmed if the two people were involved in the shooting.

There was a separate shooting earlier Monday in Reno, Nevada, in which the suspect killed three people and injured at least three others. The shooter had no known connection to the victims, and his motive remains unknown at this time.
