The Tesla Cybertruck’s structure and design helped limit the damage from the explosion outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas on Wednesday morning.

Las Vegas Sheriff Kevin McMahill provided the analysis during a Wednesday evening segment on The Ingraham Angle on Fox News.

“What I also would like you to pay attention to on that video as you see that, it looks like the exterior of that truck is completely intact as it sits there,” McMahill said. “The fact that this was a Cybertruck really limited the damage that occurred inside of the valet because it had most of the blast go up through the truck and out. In fact, if you look on that video, you’ll see that the front glass doors at the Trump Hotel were not even broken by that blast.”

Tesla CEO Elon Musk acknowledged this fact with a post of his own on X on Wednesday. He specifically cited how the construction of the Cybertruck prevented the damage, claiming those who planned the explosion “picked the wrong vehicle for a terrorist attack.”

“The evil knuckleheads picked the wrong vehicle for a terrorist attack,” Musk posted. “Cybertruck actually contained the explosion and directed the blast upwards. Not even the glass doors of the lobby were broken.”

As for the investigation itself, McMahill also praised Musk for helping Las Vegas law enforcement officials investigate the explosion. He specifically thanked Musk for his help during a press conference about the explosion.

“I have to thank Elon Musk, specifically,” McMahill said. “He gave us quite a bit of additional information in regards to how the vehicle was locked after it exploded, due to the nature of the force from the explosion, as well as being able to capture all the video from the Tesla’s charging stations.”

An investigation into the blast revealed that the explosion was the result of a complex detonation system used by the person who designed the attack, according to reports. Las Vegas police officials discovered gas canisters, mortars, camping fuel, and fireworks in the truck in the aftermath of the blast. As of Wednesday evening, police were still trying to determine a motive and if it was a terrorist act.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department posted on its X account that it suspect the explosion was “an isolated incident with no indication of a larger plan.”
