A month ago, the first ballot box fire broke out in Vancouver, Washington, which was followed by a second one in the same city weeks later and another in Portland, Oregon. Law enforcement released footage of the man pulling up to the ballot box in his car, lighting a device, and placing the device in the drop box from the driver’s side window. Moments later, the box began to smoke and spark flames.
“The FBI’s mission is to protect the American people and uphold the Constitution. These three ballot box fires were an attack on both,” Greg Austin, an agent with the FBI’s Seattle office, told Central Oregon Daily News.
While the dark Volvo S60 sedan had a Washington license plate, it was fraudulent and unlikely to be on the vehicle still, according to the FBI. Its Volvo emblem was also missing from the front grill.
The suspect is a white male between 30 and 40 years old with thinning hair. Law enforcement suspects he “may have some experience with metal work and welding.”
