Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is demanding that law enforcement release the name of the perpetrator who drove into a crowd on Bourbon Street in New Orleans during New Year’s Eve festivities early Wednesday morning.  “The truth needs to come out asap,” Greene said on X, on which conspiracy theories are circulating regarding whether the […]

“The truth needs to come out asap,” Greene said on X, on which conspiracy theories are circulating regarding whether the FBI is already attempting to shield information from the public.

At approximately 3:15 a.m. local time, the driver of a white pickup truck drove into a crowd of people on the popular party street in the tourist hub while wielding a firearm. There have been 10 confirmed deaths and more than 30 injuries reported, including two police officers who were shot.

The FBI confirmed at 8:30 a.m. Central time, approximately five hours after the incident took place, that the driver of the vehicle “engaged with local law enforcement and is now deceased.”

Greene posted a photo of the pickup truck on X, highlighting that the vehicle had a Texas license plate.

“Texas plates. Release his name. Now,” Greene wrote.

The photo also shows a flag pole apparatus attached to the back of the truck, which Greene said “looks like they may have covered up a flag.”

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell was quick to denounce the event as a “terrorist attack.” The FBI said as of 8:30 a.m. Central time that it is investigating the incident “as an act of terrorism,” a change from its position earlier Wednesday morning.

President Joe Biden called Cantrell early Wednesday morning to offer full federal support for the city.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), who represents the western portion of Louisiana, asked for people to join in praying for the victims, their families, and first responders and investigators.

“The vicious attack on innocent people celebrating the New Year in New Orleans early this morning was an act of pure evil, and justice must be swift for anyone who was involved,” Johnson wrote on X.

Gov. Jeff Landry (R-LA) also asked for prayers, calling the attack “a horrific act of violence.”
