The son of the Israeli consul in Miami, Florida, is facing two felony charges instead of getting diplomatic immunity after he allegedly hit a police officer with his motorcycle.

Police charged Avraham Gil, 19, the son of Eli Gil, with resisting an officer with violence and aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer. According to the arrest affidavit, Avraham Gil was weaving in between cars in traffic on Jan. 27 in Sunny Isles Beach when a police officer performing a traffic stop saw Gil coming and ordered him to stop. Instead, Gil ran over the officer, injuring his leg, and was subsequently arrested.

According to the police report, the teenager was driving recklessly because he “hated waiting in traffic.”

“The Department is aware of this incident. We can confirm that, as the dependent of an Israeli consular officer, the concerned individual is not entitled to civil or criminal immunity,” the U.S. State Department said in a statement.

Gil has claimed that the crash was an accident and not a targeted attack against the officer. A subsequent police report claimed the officer suffered an “incapacitating” injury.

Police pulled Gil over a few weeks ago on New Year’s Eve after an officer allegedly witnessed Gil speeding and making an illegal U-turn.

A bond has not been set for Gil since his last hearing on Sunday.
