David Pecker, a key witness in former President Donald Trump’s criminal hush money trial, was “swatted” on the day of his testimony, according to a Reuters report.

In an April 25 email to a local newspaper, a person under the name “Jamal” said they had tied up Pecker’s wife and killed someone at the address of Pecker’s home in Greenwich, Connecticut. Swatting is an increasingly popular tactic of filing a false report with the intention of triggering a “potentially dangerous response” from law enforcement.

“I f—ed up really bad,” Jamal wrote. “Please help me.”

Greenwich police were already outside of Pecker’s home as a precaution due to his involvement in the high-profile case.

“A check … revealed no emergency,” said the report, which Reuters obtained through a records request. “The email was likely a swatting by proxy attempt.”

Officials from both sides of the aisle have fallen victim to swatting in recent months. Reps. Brandon Williams (R-NY) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) both had their homes swatted on Christmas in 2023.

“Our home was swatted this afternoon,” Williams posted on X. “Thanks to the Deputies and Troopers who contacted me before arriving. They left with homemade cookies and spiced nuts! Merry Christmas everyone!”

This is likely the first swatting attempt against someone involved with Trump’s trial. While on the stand, Pecker, the previous publisher of the National Enquirer, testified that he helped then-nominee Trump by burying a story about an alleged affair between Trump and adult film star Stormy Daniels in order to aid the Trump campaign.

“I made the decision to purchase the story because of the potential embarrassment it had to the campaign and to Mr. Trump,” Pecker testified.
